Big Issue Magazine Reaches 200 Million Sales

 

Big Issue celebrates its significant milestone of 200 Million copies sold at the v Jealous Gallery in Shoreditch, London. To commemorate the issue the cover is designed by a prolific street artist Ben Eine

The Big Issue is a magazine founded by John Bird and Gordon Roddick in 1991. It is currently being published on four continents. It is written by professional journalists and sold by homeless individuals. It offers homeless and long-term unemployed people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income. The Team at big issue stated that “they are currently working with around 2000 individuals across the UK offering them the opportunity to earn an income.”

During his speech, John Bird shared his concerns “With homelessness again rising alarmingly, and a particularly worrying number of young people in insecure housing or on the streets, Bird said: “Our work must begin again. We must do something about the crisis in this country. We have to grasp the political nettle.”

The Big Issue is one of the UK’s leading social businesses. The work of Big Issue will continue and after achieving its current milestone the sky is the limit for the magazine.
